The Republicans seized on his comment as evidence of troop bashing? Well, to borrow Republican rhetoric from the Mark Foley scandal…gee whiz, isn’t it a little odd that they’re complaining about this right before an election?
Politics makes me want to go lie down somewhere quiet.
The larger problem, though, is that when the President says something stupid, it’s a punchline on Leno, but when a Democrat says something stupid, it’s a major media event. Granted, part of this is because if the media went into crisis mode over every stupid comment King George made, no one would sleep at CNN. But whether it’s the Republican spin machine, the perceived arrogance and “smarter-than-thou”-ness of the Democratic party, or a scared, sensationalist media that’s looking for anything they can blow up -as long as it’s not, God forbid, the President – the Dems get hit hard when they slip up.
