I was trying to find a metaphor for life
in knitting – something in the fact that,
once you learn how easy it is to start over
it’s much simpler than figuring out
what you did wrong.

Everything in life, it seems,
is bound to diminish us-
each restart, each new direction
forcing us to leave a little bit behind.

But diminished is still changed,
and change still growth,
so perhaps

It is in this pattern of beginning and discarding
that we begin to discover ourselves.
